HFA Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Homeowners Alleging Defective Gerard Stone Coated Metal Roofing

Jan 22, 2019

Handley Farah & Anderson has filed a lawsuit against Gerard Roof Products, on behalf of a class of thousands of homeowners across the United States who purchased stone-coated metal roofing from the company. The roofing commands a significant premium in the market based upon claims that the roofing requires little to no maintenance and because it comes with a purported “lifetime warranty.” However, the lawsuit alleges that in actuality the roofing is subject to major discoloration as a result of its defective design. The lawsuit alleges that the defect causes mold, fungus, and/or mildew to develop on the surface of the roofing. The lawsuit alleges that this discoloration devalues the homes and requires frequent and costly maintenance and cleaning to remedy. The lawsuit alleges that, to date, Gerard Roof Products appears to have systematically denied warranty claims and has refused to assume the cost of cleaning or replacing the discolored roofs.

The lawsuit was filed in Federal court in Florida on January 22, 2019, and seeks certification of national and Florida classes. A copy of the complaint is available HERE.
